Craftsman Edger Carb Settings

New to forum, Hope I do this right. I picked up a Craftsman edger that had carb problems but can't find carb adjustment info. They're not in the manual. The motor is a Craftsman 3 1/2 HP Model 143.013502. I think its made by Tecumseh but just guessing. If anyone has any input on how to find these settings it would be appreciated.

Your engine is a Tecumseh LEV100-335010E with a 640262 Float Feed carburetor.

Unfortunately, there are no adjustments for main mixture, nor idle mix, other than idle speed. Replacement carb is about $60, and the kit is about $15.

You might be able to disassemble, remove any rubber or plastic parts and soak in carb cleaner, then reassemble.

Good luck.

Thanks ggoyeneche for the information. I had taken the carb apart and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. The float had about 1/8 inch of black tar like substance all around it. Since i put it back together I have gotten it to fire and run about a minute but it seems to be running at a idle eventhough I have the control in high speed. Will take your advise and soak it awhile in carb cleaner.
It will be a week before I can get this done, going out of town to 50th class reunion. I'll post the results.

Sounds like a governor linkage or spring problem to me. Here are a few pictures of how the linkage should look if you have this setup.

Great pictures baymee, Thanks. It's a little different from mine but It gives me a good idea of how it all connects up.
