The mixture screws should be set 1 1/8 turns out for initial start. The choke would normally be fully closed.
Do you have good compression and a strong spark?

Thanks, canguy -- compression seems good, will check spark. Ordered carburetor rebuild kit today and it should be here early next week. If spark looks OK and carb rebuild doesn't help, I'll do a gasket rebuild kit as well to make sure there aren't leaks anywhere.

I have the same model Edger/Engine and unfortunately, I do not have the user's manual and am not too familiar with small engines. I was just wondering what type of oil and how much of it should I put in the engine.

Check and make sure the vent holes in the gas cap are clear they are vents

Everyone ; We are switching to aircraft or racing oil for the benefits of air cooled aircraft engine security. I use 20w50, 15w50 & philips 25w60. former employee of SW research & Flight Research. Quality & proper viscosity = very low wear and continued good compression. Jay

Check to see if you have Spark, I had a similar problem, it was the coil ran for a while then turned off, till the coil finally went all together (no spark at all) Good Luck

Al , I believe your advice as to a faulty ignition coil is sound . The original post mentioned the engine ran fine for 10 minutes prior to repeatedly stalling out . That is the normal symptom of a coil heating up and causing erratic engine performance . Not aware of what aircraft engines or heavy multi grade oil has any bearing on the subject at hand lol.
