Craftsman Blade Guard Problem

Bought a 21" Craftsman lawnmower last year and used it once before it developed a problem. When cranked, it made a horrible grating sound. Took it back and the fix was simple - the manager simply reached underneath and bent the blade guard back into place. Problem solved.

Not really.

The mower was used only one additional time until just a few weeks ago because of the drought we had here in Texas. There was just no grass to cut for nearly a year.

I used the mower last week and I had to stop and bend out the guard because running over even a small limb or rock would bend the guard enough to cause the blade to scrape.

I have run over many things in my 50+ years of cutting grass, but I never had a mower so cheaply made that you could bend the blade guard by hand.

I took the mower back, and Sears (Bastrop) refused to do anything saying it was my fault for not picking up every single thing the mower could possibly run over. Sorry, but I live in the Real World, Sears.

Anyone else have similar problems?
