Type A grease was an off white lite weight lube used for drive rollers, transmission gears (plastic) and recoil spring. Looked a lot like lithium grease which it may have been.
It may have been a #1 NLGI grade which is softer than a #2 which is mostly what you can find now. Post what exactly you want to use it on. If for a transmission, you can get Sten's #00 grease - dark green. For most everything else, I will use Slick 50 Teflon Grease, also a #2, light green in color. This does the best and longest-lasting job on drive and non-drive wheels and gears.
For use on capstan drive roller shafts, drive differential (which is mostly plastic), and recoil spring. My model has the plastic wheels which are not lubricated.
