lawnmower dies out

Hi all,
I have a craftsman briggs and stratton engine 6.5 hp.
Pretty standard engine.

when this mower first started to bogg down and die, I cleaned out the brass nut holding the bowl in. Meaning i carefully cleaned out the jet holes. It would run fine for awhile then die again. I basically have to do this every week i mow the lawn.

So i thought maybe debris is clogging the carb. So I installed a inline fuel filter between the gas tank and carb. It didn't really help because i'm still getting the same symptoms.

It's a nice mower, it's only 4-5 yrs old. i bought it for $100 last summer. I would really like to fix this problem. Maybe an additive to the fuel would help?

Does it run fine until you put a load on the engine and then it dies?

it has a hard time starting. and once it starts running, its kinda puttering around. it will shut off once in awhile if i mow a heavy patch of lawn.

Sea Foam added to the gas might help. Do you think the RPMs are high enough once it's running? If so, try sea foam.

From your first message are you saying have to clean out the jet every week? If so that indicates you have a lot of sediment built up in the tank and elsewhere. I would suggest throughly cleaning the fuel system and removing the fuel filter. If the tank is metal and at all rusted just replace it. And get the other basic stuff out of the way like a new air filter, plug and oil change.
