Help for new Tru Cut 25' Reel mower

I just received a new Tru Cut 25", 10 blade, Honda powered mower yesterday. Assembled the unit as per the provided dealer assembly instructions, and reset the height range to the HI position. Cutting at the top notch (2 1/4) inches, I noticed a very clean, but incomplete cut. Alot of blades were springing back up un-cut. I was cutting some shop grass being a mixture of weeds, bermuda, st augustine, and who knows what else?

Later yesterday, UPS delivers the front roller mod, we install and try again, with somewhat better results.

So I brought her home to try on some recently sodded St Augustine. Cranked it up around 8am this morning, set on high, attempting to cut 3" tall grass, cut last Wednesday. Same results, blades cut had a sharp clean cut, but had 20% spring up uncut. Made a second cut, again better, but not even the quality of a good sharp rotary! Alot of unsightly blades sticking up and over 1-3 inches.

Being hot, I put her up, rechecked the setup to see if intial blade adjustment was necessary - not mentioned. So now plan B. The grass was last watered 2 days ago, 1/2 shaded, Temps here in Jackson, MS - lows 78, highs 95, so I dont think it was wet.

All suggestions appreciated and welcomed!

Have you tried the paper cut test to see if the blades are cutting across the entire width of the bedknife?

No I havent, as I assumed it was ok out of the box.

Now that you mentioned that, I remember seeing more clippings coming from one side versus the other.

The un cut spring backs, seemed to be across the entire blade though. Thanks will check.

Did you buy this from a local dealer or thru internet? If local, I cannot believe dealer didn't set the mower up and check blade and bedknife adjustment.

If you have to do it yourself, you'd be wise to get a spanner wrench for adjusting the bearing caps. You can use a drift punch (I've done it myself) but as in the rest of life, the right tool is the best tool.

When adjusted properly, each reel blade (all five or seven) should be able to cut strips of paper along it's entire length every four or five inches. With a seven blade reel, that means you are going to be checking cut at 35 to 40 locations.

BTW, the mower will tend to throw grass to one side, due to the spiral of the reel. When I mow, I'll fill catcher about half, push a handful of grass over to the empty side, and then continue mowing until full. Only takes an extra few seconds.

The mower came from CA to MS (internet),and there was no mention in the "Dealer Set Up Instructions", to check the reel - bed knife clearance.

This model is a 10 blade reel, (CL25-H-10) and did come with the spanner wrench.

Upon engaging the reel blades, I did notice a high pitch squeal - still present to some degree, after 30 minutes run time.

The owners manual says to adjust the reel - bedknife clearance to a light / even contact, with a light finger pressure to rotate the reel! Others mention using newspaper to confirm the cut. I will try this tommorrow.

Looks like I may have alot of cut checks to perform?

Thanks
