John Deere 425 Cooling System Strangeness..

My Deere 425 has about 1100 hours. It runs OK, with the temp gauge well down in the *green*.

However, I can't keep the radiator full, and the plastic overflow is always empty. When I fill the plastic resivoir, nothing leaks at all. But after moxing an hour or so, its empty and the radiator level is down to where I can see the coil.

After mowing, it appears that about 1/2 cup of water drips by the front left tire.

I'm not sure I really trust the gauge because the full guage ALWAYS reads 1/4 full whether its topped off or empty!

I bought a new water pump from the JD dealer since when I explained the problem he suggested that. But since its pretty involved, and the mower seems to run OK, I've been putting that off.

I cant exactly see where the water comes from. All hoses look fine I dont see any leaks. And I can't see leaks from the water pump either.

I have been doing some research on the 425's because I am about to buy one and I saw someone saying that the bolts on the front cover of the engine loosens up and caused it to leak. It wouldn't take you long to check to see if any are loose so I would check that out.
