| I have a 6-hp B&S engine mounted on a Toro base. I have strong spark, Carb is clean. It will not start it sputters a bit of smoke out of the carb and that is it. I tested the compression and it reads around 30 lbs. I am assuming this engine is dead. I have another B&S 6.5-hp engine that runs perfect and it's compression is 70 lbs. |
Follow-Up Postings:

| 30# makes it very difficult to start. If the shafts are the same and the pulleys are the same, you should be able to swap engines. It might be something simple like an exhaust valve. |
|
| I popped off the head the valves were all carboned-up but worked perfect. The cylinder had 4 deep groves the length off the cylinder. I cleaned all carbon and used emery cloth to sand off or smooth out the groves the best I could. I also greased the groves. After testing non of this helped. No start compression was 30 lbs. I am currently looking for a used mower with same engine. later |
