I have a Toro Lawn mower that ran OK earlier today for a little while then died. The only information that I could find on the mower said it was a Toro "Recycler" SAE J1940 190cc

I'm hoping some of you may have some ideas on what's wrong with it and how I may be able to fix it. It has plenty of fresh gas and oil. Sadly I accidently ran over my dogs outdoor lead with a metal clasp. It was running fine, then I did that. It abruptly stopped and I could smell smoke.

However, once I got the rope out from underneath it and made sure the coast was clear, it started right back up. It ran long enough to do one more pass across the yard, then it made a kind of whirring noise and I could tell it was losing power then stopped. Now when I try to start it, it makes a noise like its trying to turn over when I pull the cord but just backfires instead and nothing happens.

If you have any ideas on what I could do I would greatly appreciate it.
