Need E3 brand spark plug help.

| Hello all.
I purchased a E3 type 12 spark plug for my leaf blower.
The E3 spark plug application chart indicates the E3.12 is the replacement for the Champion RCJ6Y.
My leaf blower has a Champion RCJ6Y spark plug with .025 inch gap, per operator's manual instructions.
My question: The E3 spark plug application chart has the E3.12 with .030 inch gap. Should I set the E3.12 to .025 inch gap for use with my leaf blower?
Thanks for any advice. |

It really won't make much difference ,you could always shoot for the middle per se,and set the gap at .028" Jim

My recommendation would be to go with the machine manufacturers spec., since that was what the ignition system was designed for. However, since the spark has to jump a wider gap, then it will be there longer to help burn up the mix more efficiently, if the ignition system is strong enough. It will probably run on either and you might not notice a difference at all. Try them both and see. I'm sure you can't hurt anything, unless the piston hits it, which I doubt. |

You do not adjust the gap on the E3. If you close it up, you may as well buy a $1.50 plug.

Hello all. Hi saxman1. Don't get me wrong, I believe you provide sound advice on all subjects, and this E3 spark plug gap question. I think you have experience with the E3. But prior to this post I went to the E3 website looking for a "E3 caution statement" in bold print like, DO NOT ADJUST THE GAP ON THE E3. Did I overlook this "E3 caution statement" on their web site? Bottom line, I can leave the E3 at .030 no problem. I just like to get the job done right, the first time. saxman1, please give a a brief on the reason behind "do not adjust the gap on the E3" before this turns into a my sparkplug is better that your sparkplug battleground? Could you please sir? Thanks to everyone for their input.

It's a special plug designed to work as it is. I have used two of them so far - one in an older carboned-up B&S and one in my Ryobi trimmer. Results are excellent. Again, if you plan on screwing around with a $9 sparkplug, you have wasted your money.

Hello all. Hi saxman1. I installed the E3.12 w/air gap .030 in my leaf blower. All is well. The leaf blower runs like a scared jackrabbit now :) You are the man with the plan saxman1. Thanks. Good day.

saxman -these things actually do make a differance -at least in older somewhat worn machines. i have a set of hedge trimmers that are very stubborn to start and run ragged till warm. starts on first pull now and its off to the races with no warm up needed.

Leave it set to factory specs. |

Not tooting Saxman's horn, but I tried a couple in my jd 318 last week and she is screaming like a banshee now. You really can tell a difference in the engine performance just by the tune of the motor. I had to special order the size for the onan engine but I personally think it was the best $16 I have spent other than the case of Bud that followed the cutting chore afterwards. Getter doner!

Hello People, Have any of you heard of "ALDOR" Spark Plugs; They are made to "FIRE in OIL". If so, Please Post your Results. I have a 2-Stroker 1972 Oil Injected Motorcycle that uses Excessive Oil causing the plug to fowl. Thanks-To-All. Nitrojc.

A 2-cycle cannot 'use too much oil'. Too much oil may be in the fuel either from the wrong mix or a bad injection system. You need to fix the oil injection, not buy a special spark plug.

HELLO SAXMAN, It looks as if your out-numbered with your Take on these E3 spark plugs. I have read on other Forums that the plugs DO Work. Regarding my oil injection system, I believe it's a bit rich at idle, but leans out with increased RPM's. Nitro.

I think you need to read a little more here. I'm the one who has been promoting the E3 plug. I stand by my original response to your question, which has nothing negative to say about the E3 plug. I should have known that I was dealing with an ignoramus when I read about 'a 2-stroker that uses excessive oil'.

Gentlemen: I have two E3 spark plugs in front of me, both still unopened. The E3-10 (and actually I have several E3-10s and E3-12s) all have no mention of proper gap settings. The E3-22 I have, which I got recently, states, in the upper left hand corner "Set small engine plug gap to engine MFG specification." Could this be in response to queries concerning plug gapping? Could the E3 manufacturers know a spark plug setting that would work for all the different applications they will be used in? I have wondered about this myself. It certainly sounds like they are working well for a lot of us!

Their website is http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/. In the catalog section they give the recommended gap. A quick look shows the same plug number but different gap settings for different applications. It would be best to check their website.

I have seen poor performance that is directly attributed to these plugs being installed in Tecumseh, Briggs, Lawnboy, Weed-Eater, and Stihl manufactured engines. In almost every case, installing the spark plug recommended by the manufacturer corrects the running problem. I would STRONGLY suggest using the spark plug recommended by the engine manufacturer.

"If you plan on screwing around with a $9 sparkplug, you're wasting your money".......... If you spent $9 on a sparkplug;you already wasted you're money, for NO sparkpug is worth $9...........

I tried one in my 10 year old Toro with Briggs.Worked the first time and after that, would not start.Went back to NGK and no problems.

whenever I try NGK plugs,I always run into problems, such as paying more, and not lasting 1/2 as long.......I wouldn't mind paying an extra couple of dollars,IF they were worth it but, when they fail so soon;I get aggravated at a plug that's supposed to be so great....only to end up not lasting half as long as a Champion
