John Deere 425 mower problems

John Deere 425 all wheel steering, 54" mower.
While mowing, the mower stopped stalling the engine. Re started and did the same thing. Removed the mower deck and everything spins good, checked oil in gear box on top of deck, OK. Shaft to rear transfer case seems hard to move. Any thoughts?

I suggest you move this question to the tractor forum and be specific in the details. Does it run until you disengage the brake? Upon engaging the deck?
