Try pulling it with the blade engaged. It should still be easy to pull. If it is hard then there is a problem.

Try keeping the choke on. If this works the engine is out of adjustment or really cold.

Also make sure your adjustment is correct for the blade brake cable.

Change out your spark plug. Have seen similar issues with Kawasaki engines. Would run great until you put it under load (engage the clutch) and then it would stall. Seems like it's way too simple but I've cleaned carb's, reset valve lash, and checked flywheel keys on machoines that just wanted a fresh plug.

aservant, your cable may be out of adjustment or broken. There should be a bit of slack when the blade is disengaged. rahm, you could have the same problem. If the clutch is not fully engaged the brake will not release.

what lawnmower Dan said worked for me..i engaged teh blade while it was still in choke and it worked and works fine now..maybe i was doing it like that before and it jsut slipped my mind..
