All you have to do is to use Sta-Bil Marine for Ethanol-blended fuel. I use this in the 2-cycles and 4-cycles, as well as some Marvel Mystery Oil. This has been working for years. I don't do anything special for winter storage or other periods of non-use.
The only time I drain fuel is with the chain saw and Mantis tiller which may go for years between uses.

I believe the internal parts of old lawn equipment is more vulnerable to issues with ethanol than the new equipment. There is a possibility the chemicals in some of the newer additives might also cause an issue with old equipment. I don't really know for sure.
I'll keep saxman1's suggestion in mind if my method ever fails me.
A couple things I just learned. According to the Husqvarna video, it's a good idea to shake gas cans, as wells as 2 cycle equipment to mix the fuel. Even straight fuel that contains no oil. Reason being, water can form in the can especially large cans containing air and gasoline containing ethanol. Shaking the fuel lessens the chance of a large amount of water entering your engine. They also recommend buying only enough fuel to last 30 days. DISCLAIMER: You might want to loosen or remove the cap from the can before gently shaking it. I used to buy gas for the lawn equipment in a 5 gallon container. I'm switching to a couple 1 gallon containers in order to minimize the amount of air that sits in the container.
