| So I've done my due diligence and searched this forum looking for answers and now I'm posting for advice.
Symptoms:
Attempts:
What am I missing? I know the problem exists somewhere between the carb and the cylinder, but I'm not sure how to proceed. After passing through the main jet bolt, is it possible a clog exists directly above in the threaded passageway? Does the cylinder receive fuel via vacuum or via pressure? Thanks in advance for the assistance! |

Also spray some in your main jet with a blast of aerosol blaster or compressed air . You have ensured the needle valve above the float is free and clear ? Either way if only varnish or gumming is the issue the fuel cleaner will resolve within approx 30 minutes . Once started let the engine idle for a few minutes to again help remove any residual residue within the fuel system . In the future use stabil or equivalent while storing and I suggest a seasonal start up use of a fuel treatment on the 1st tank solves a lot of carb downtime . |

| walt2002: engine #143.975034. ewalk: chevron engine cleaner did the trick. I was able to get it running and picked up three bags full! Thanks. Unfortunately, now it is hemorrhaging oil... Are these engines worth repairing? |

| Carr: I assume you are referring to leakage via the crankshaft seal . Normally no is the answer . If the seal is leaking the odds are the bearing is gone causing the run-out that is causing the seal to leak . The price of a seal and bearing $50.00 and double that for R&R by an authorized mechanic . If your handy you may well be able to accomplish yourself . I would recommend a new or slightly used mower . I picked up a nice White outdoors unit c/w 5HP B&S Quantum for $60.00 It appears just like new and I have used it now for 3 yrs . There are always Retired Gents (mechanics) who pick up basket case units repair and repair for a nominal charge . just for something to do . If not buy a new unit and start fresh :) . Just my advice . |
