Trying to determine if I have 2 cycle or a 4 cycle engine.

I have 2 lawn mowers that I'm not sure if they are 2 cycle or 4 cycle engines. The first one is a Craftsman walk-behind, 20" mulcher with 6hp engine. The Craftsman's model number is 917387282 and the engine's model number is 143996000. The second mower is a Weed Eater walk-behind, 22" with a Briggs & Stratton 500 Series engine. It's model number is 961140015 00. I would really appreciate the help. I'm currently taking a Small Engine Mechanics course but I'm still learning, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you need to mix gas and oil it's a 2 cycle. If the engine has an oil fill tube port like your car it is a 4 stroke. The Weedeater's B&S will be the latter. The Craftsman could be either, the engine number indicates it was made by Tecumseh and they made 2 stroke mower engines in the distant past.
