Have a Toro trimmer that I believe still has life but won't start. Getting spak and installed new plug. Adding fuel directly to cylinder will start it. Have disassembled carb and soaked in cleaner overnight. Replaced diaphram. Help! Seems this must be a fuel delivery issue. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Toro model 51930, carburetor is Walbro WYJ. Thanks in advance.

97: Sometimes just soaking does not really get the action started . Removal of the jets and using a fine wire and spraying concentrated carb clean into the jet orifice is needed to loosen any residual restriction. Also a computer aerosol duster or compressed air is also beneficial . If you have a primer remove the fuel lines and spray some cleaner within them also . Ensure to add some cleaner within the fuel tank also . To assist spray some fuel mix or cleaner into the Spark Plug hole and then reinstall plug and attempt to start . It may take a few attempts , once started let it idle then slowly accelerate until the cleaner does it work . Once warmed up Set up the carb tuning . If your not sure start at the low speed 1-1/4 turns to 1-1/2 out so to enable throttle response without hesitation . Same with the High Speed . Set your idle once engine is fully warmed up and running without issues . Note: Please ensure you have fresh fuel and in the future use Stabil during winter storage and Fuel cleaner during your 1st tank seasonally . Will save you a lot of anguish Bro !

Thanks much ewalk. I failed to mention that I also did take a wire to the jet - it's clear. Fuel lines are brand new and fuel is fresh. Trimmer will fire with fuel added directly to spark plug pole, but once that's burned, it won't continue to run and dies. Any other ideas, my friend?

97: Without the Concentrated Carb Cleaner and following Recommendations your dead in the water . Worse case scenario Diaphragm is damaged . Small pin hole or it has lost elasticity. My money is on the Gumming / Varnish from Ethanol Fuel within the Carb Circuits . I'am working on a Buddies Orphan Trimmer that has Red Rubber Primmer material contamination throughout the Carb Circuits. Have removed the Carb Diaphragm and blown out debris three times . Hoping that Time and Concentrated Cleaner will remove (Eventually) the Residual Crude. Patience Grass-Hopper ! Get the Cleaner flowing and it will work , compressed air if stubborn Dude . I have been down this road way too many times :) .

Thanks again ewalk. I will keep it at and try to have patience. Is there a way I can determine if fuel is flowing through carburetor to engine??

You may have to disassemble the diaphragm cover and check the needle port junction. If you have compressed air you may wish to use it there along with the Spray Cleaner . This is what the Dealer check 1st . Just like with the Older Style Lawnmower Style Float Carbs , this is where residual varnish will accumulate and restrict the fuel flow. I have seen carbs have to be treated for 24 hrs soak in Concentrated Cleaner in a Professional Ultrasonic Cleaning Unit , they were that Bad. Sorry but if the Diaphram looks ok and you don't have compressed air you will have to be patient or visit your dealer . If your plug is dry no fuel is flowing through you carb . Priming the Engine with Carb Cleaner after treating your fuel tank with a dose of cleaner and repeatedly starting will begin to pull fuel through eventually . Good Luck . |

If your carb does not respond a new carb for your unit is $49.50 + $3.95 Shipping . Probably the same that a Dealer would charge for refurbishing !
