CSV Chipper Shredder Vacuum

Hello and Greetings to all.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but a question on chipper/shredder/vaccuum type push machines.

The usual local big box store has the CSV 3-in-1 machines for about $400 to $500 and I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with using these type machines?

I've got about 10,000 sf of acutal lawn which less than 30% of it gets covered in Oak leaves and acorns and small twigs in the fall and after winter. It's heaviest in one side/corner of my property, the rest is not anywhere near trees. I've been spending about $200 a year on hiring out cleanup crews. I don't mind doing it myself if one of these things actually works the way it claims it does. But there is no way I'm going to go out there with a rake and a bucket and do it by hand. That's about where my ambition ends. Cub Cadet (I own the mower and snowthrower, which are great), plus I live near HD, Lowes, Sears, John Deere.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

I've used a Troy -Bilt vac for about 4 years as I have a lot of leaves. It has overall done a good job. It can get heavy with a full leaf bag but I usually keep a wheelbarrow nearby to empty the bag. The bag can pack up to the point the leaves need to be dug out. The hose also works well but you have to be careful not to suck up any small sticks which can cause the hose to plug up. It also has a branch chipper that will chop small branches (about 1 inch). Mine is a Troy-Bilt when Troy -bilt was a stand alone company. I don't know if the quality has been compromised when they were bought out by MTD. They also make a self propelled model.

Thank you, that's very good information there.
I have my eye on the Cub Cadet at the local Home Depot. I've got the 12 months no interest/payement option and I may put it to good use. I know what you mean about the bag getting heavy. I hope I can get one of my kids to help unload the leaves and throw in the woods while I keep going. But that probably won't happen!

Any thoughts on the acorn pickup performance? The biggest problem in my yard is acorns. Thanks.

It does well with acorns. If they are really thick, I rake them into a pile and use the hose to suck them up. They will be chopped into a course powder and the bag will get very heavy.

Good to know. My thought is if I can get out there before the acorns get embedded in the ground that may help. Of course it's not going to be perfect, but if it's doable with the hose raked into a pile then it's worth it. Thanks again for your response!
