murray mows uneven

I have read a ton of post on the WEB regarding this subect, and I am havig the same problem wth a 2004 Murray model 425001x8b. I have tried everything. Here is my theoy. I bought the mower from my neighbor that moved. As far as I could tell he did not have ths problem. I put a mulching kit on it shortly after I bought it and I think that is when it started, I do not think it does that good at mulching and the tires run over all the half mulched grass caausing it not to cut even (on the discharge side). I am going to remove the mulching plug and see how it does. Any comments?

Was the mower designed to be a mulcher, or is this simply an after market add-on kit?

Assuming it is a mower designed to be a mulcher then you are cutting way too much grass at one time. Try one or more of the following:
1. Mulch when the grass is dry.
2. Mulch at least once a week and preferably twice.
3. Reduce the forward speed.
4. Reduce the cutting swath, or overlap the cut row by 25%.

it is an after market kit. You are correct, I mow usually once a week and should do so twice weekly, which would most likely produce the same sized clippings as mulching once weekly would. We shall see.
