| Bought it used, 7 years old, never been sharpened. Took to a place they backlapped it, inspected it, said the chains were fine. They seem a little too loose to me but what do i know.....
I've never owned one or used one prior to getting this one. It seems to mow/cut fine. Cuts paper so it's sharp, after mowing yard three times I can turn the reel easier as the friction between it and the bedknife has lessened. Here is the link to a vid of me cold starting it and letting it run and mow for short distance. It just sounds "clunky" to me, almost like one of those old ice cream machines, that fire like once every 2 seconds. Sounds like ..... http://s1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff373/NEwhere1/?action=view¤t=IMG _5319.mp4 |

| That's pretty bad - definitely running rough. Many possible causes. I did not see it belching black smoke, which surprised me - I thought it was running rich. Have you tried a new spark plug? It doesn't seem to be back-firing, which could point away from sticking valves. |

| Thanks for the reply, one day Gardenweb will move into the future.... I know it's really hard to tell from the video, but to me the sound appears to be coming from the reel clutch. The wheel drive clutch has a noticeable gap between the clutch and the "flywheel". The reel side clutch the gap is not so noticeable. Here is one short video with the covers off... |

| Here's another video since I can't figure out how to post to links at once. Chain to the reel looks a litte loose, but it's not making the concerning noise. |

| So you're saying the engine actually runs fine but there's something wrong in the transmission? The title asks if we think it's 'running right'. Whatever it is sounds pretty bad. I think you need to take that drive sector apart and take a look. |

| Yes that is what i'm asking, does it sound like it's running right inclusive of the engine and two drive mechanisms. When i fist posted i thought the sound was coming from the drive shaft sticking out of the motor. Once I took off the chain guards it seemed to animate from the clutch mechanisms. At any rate I could take it apart but wouldn't know what to fix, so i guess I'll take to the hardware store Thanks for being a second set of ears. |
