Engine startup question

This is a little off topic, I have a portable generator that I bought back in 2005 (I haven't used it much, when I stored it I closed the fuel valve to let it run dry so that gas would not sit in the engine, the rest of the gas evaporated in the tank) When the power went out this weekend I noticed that in order to get it started I had to close the choke, pull the cord once, open the choke pull the cord again and it would start up.

Is this normal to have to pull the cord once with the choke closed and pull it again with it open? I've checked my oil, air filter, and spark plug and they all look good. The engine is a B&S 6.75 OHV engine.

Sounds to me like it got flooded. Try closing the choke 75% next time. To be honest I wouldn't worry since it sounds like you got it started in 2 pulls.

    Thanks, I'll try doing that.

You're good, I set the choke to 75% closed and it started on the first pull. Thanks again :)
