Briggs Quantum 6.0hp flywheel nut socket

I'd like to inspect the flywheel key on my Toro 20045 with a 6.0 hp engine sometime in the near future. It's got a Briggs 12H800 series engine. I see that the flywheel nut is a 15/16 size. Can I use a regular size 15/16 socket with a short extention to remove the nut or is a deep socket needed for this? Thanks.

It depends how long the shaft stub is on the crankshaft. Usually a deep socket is better.

I use a standard/ no extension.
