I really like the wash out port but I am concerned about rust. If I continue to use it could it prematurely age the mower and have a shorter life span.

I like to use it because I get brown patch every summer and between washing the underside n spray w/ bleach I think it keeps the fungus from spreading. I spray the wheels also. I think it helps,along w/ a good fungicide.

If your grass is wet when you cut it, the wet grass stuck to the underside of your deck will do more damage than the hose wash, but if dry, you probably won't need the hose wash.

I've worked on riding mowers where the wet grass had not dried internally from the last use in Fall to the tune up in Spring, 5 months.

I don't bother doing it.
