Choices: Electric battery powered mower, 120 Volt electric Mower, or Manual (no gas or electric powered mower) push mower would be your options over conventional Gas.

Elect. Battery powered mower are nice for small yard with lush grass like you see on golf courses (not the ruffs!). You would not want to let the grass get too big. trying to cut too much grass off the top runs the battery down quicker. Also you have to consider the price of the battery replacement, and blade maintenance.

120 Volt elect. mower. not much to worry about here except for the extension cord. Limits mower distance and you constantly have to watch out for the extension cord so you don't mow over it. Other than Blade maintenance should last quiet awhile.

Manual push mower. Labor intensive. the taller the grass the more labor pushing it. Other than sharpen the blades and maybe some greasing once in great while should last long time. Builds muscle and character , some like the work out, no noise to speak of, no energy use except muscle power.

I vote for the household (AC) powered mower over a battery one. Some/many batteries can be very pricey.

If kids are gonna be using this mower then a cordless mower is the best option for sure.
