briggs and stratton 17hp ohv valve adjustments

I was wondering if anyone could give me directions on how to properly re-set the valves. My mower is having a hard time starting and after reading the questions in the forum it seems like that is the problem. Could somebody please help

What do u set the valve gaps to? Intake & exhaust? Which one is the top valve & whichis the bottom valve?
