Electric PTO Clutch repair

I have a 1994 Toro Model 30175 Mid-size Proline Gear Traction commercial grade walk behind mower, serial #491457 with a 44" deck and a Toro 54-3200 PTO clutch that activates the mowing deck. It has a 14 HP Kohler engine pull start. The engine runs fine. A push switch engages the PTO clutch, and there is a 10A fuse that blows a few seconds after blade engagement. I cannot find any bare wire shorts and think the PTO clutch might need replacement. What do you think? I have limited tools and abilities beyond oil changes, spark plug replacement, and cutting blade sharpening - is this something the average guy could fix? Thanks for your help! Moe

I don't know your clutch, but many have an adjustable air gap. You may have such a clutch. First you have to find it and then look for 3 adjusting nuts around the perimeter and an oval slot between them. That would be where you put in the feeler gauge. Around .012 gap is usually safe. Tighten the nuts very slightly, evenly, to get that gap at all three points, with the switch OFF.

I have the same mower and the clutch is supposed to only draw less than 4 amps. Mine draws 6 amps and I am trying to remove it to replace it. Problem is the clutch hits the axle when trying to drop it down. It appears you have to lift the engine to get it off!
My regulator is bad also sending more than the normal 14 volt dc output.
