Synthetic oil for new mower??

Just purchased a Honda HXR217vka mower and it recommends using 10w-30 motor oil for the first oil change. My question is if I can use Pennzoil synthetic 10w-30 oil instead?? If not what motor oil do you guys recommend?? Thanks for your time.

Kenz: Yes A synthetic Oil would be a good choice. To Protect a $700.00 Investment . Use the current Manufacturers oil for the Break in Period then go to the Premium Syn Oil of your Choice . Seeing that your from Wisc. your ambient temps are very similar to Ontario , so 10-w-30 would be ideal . Great Mower Dude , I like Amsoil , Sax likes Royal Purple ...the Important Point is to Buy the Best You Can afford and check you levels Religiously !

IIRC the "Honda" branded motor oil is synthetic.

I assume that the owners manual says synthetic oil is ok for uour mower.

I would start with a synthetic at whatever weight the manufacturer recommends. Pennzoil, Mobil 1 or any of the major brands are fine. I've run synthetic in my 6 year old mower since new and the oil does not carbon up like traditional oil.

Many thanks guys as I'll definitely go the synthetic route after break in!!

Yes, wait until AFTER the initial break in period.
