Bad gas cap???

My neighbor and I share a 52" Great Dane 17hp zero turn mower. It started bending a rod. When we took it to an established mower sales/repair shop, we were told it was out of time which they fixed, it lasted a couple of months. When we took it back in they told us it was because the carb was leaking gas into the cyl. And also the oil, they said they tried to rebuild the carb twice but it still leaked gas, then they told us a new carb was needed,we picked up the mower used it for 30 min. Checked the oil and it was full of gas, we took it back for them to make good, when we picked it up they charged us again for oil and then tries to charge us for a new gas cap, claimed it was not venting properly and it was causing the gas to run through to the oil? we said no, then they said they broke up the old cap so we couldn't use it again , and if we didn't pay they would remove any new parts they had put on. Cost $ 500.00 new gas cap.

RE: Bad gas cap???

Way back, i saw an old movie, where a couple of brothers had an old gas station. they'd sit outside all day, and lay something down on the ground, to make it look like somebody had dropped a wallet. When a customer for gas came in, and saw the wallet, one of those guys would yank it away from the "sucker", and they'd both get a good laugh out of it.
seems you have met the descendants of those guys in that movie! If it was me--i'd steer very clear of those crooks. Seems they don't have much knowlege of how to run a business, nor how to fix things.

Yup, I should have read the reviews on google about the shop. How they stay in business is beyond me.

The gas leakdown obviously caused the bent connecting rod and the other problems. I think I know the guys that run that place - is this them?

Lol funny pic.
I just tried the mower out, after 5-10 min. It started missing so I shut it down, checked the oil and sure enough it has gas in it again and when removed the air filter it came pouring our as well. We can't take it back to the crooks again, will have to find honest shop in the Palm bay/Melbourne area. Sure hurts to $ 500.00 though!
