Reverse Action Throttle Cable?

Learn something new every day. I recently replaced an old Tecumseh engine on a Snapper with a new Briggs & Stratton. I needed a new (longer) throttle cable because the throttle is in a different place. Selected one on EBay after careful measurements, and installed it. This is a complete unit - it included the control lever and housing. Works just fine except for one detail - the fast position on the mower is the "turtle" position on the control housing, and vice versa. On both new and old engine, slow is with the cable fully extended, and fast is fully retracted. Is this a variation on lawnmower engines, or did I get a factory "oops"? That would certainly explain why it was only about $8.50 including postage. I'm just going to slap a piece of adhesive tape on the control housing with the proper orientation in case somebody else uses the mower.
