You'd better have "Lucky" tatooed on yer fore-head! 14 years on a Craftsman tractor?! You will surely not do that again, what with the current crop of Craftsman tractors! They are good, but not that good, now. The hydrostatic transmissions tend to fail after long usage, and some without hard usage.
I bought a really nice red C-man lawn tractor, with the hydro tranny jumping out of gear and grinding, jerking, and not usable, for $50! Looks nice-good other parts, man who owned it had nearly level lawns, but it clanked and groaned! Tractor is around 5 years of age, near as i can figure. And, i have seen other tractors with low years and usage, with bad trannys!
for the replacement, i'd suggest you do your home-work, and investigate the better brands of lawn tractors. Pay more--get more. Most of the current crop is being built by companies that make their money on volume sales, to Sears, Home Depot, and the like!

Looks like I can't complain about getting 14 trouble free years.

I like the John Deere but the 100 series seems to be mas produced with lower quality just to compete with the Craftsman and others. On the other hand the 300 series is much better but starts in the $3,200 range.

Do you think I can get 10 years out of a JD L100 series tractor?
