How to test ignition on mower

Hi,

I have a Lawnboy 10301 (great mower) that is no longer producing a spark. I would like to know how I can determine if I have a bad ignition module or if I have an issue with the dead-man ignition cutoff. So far I have tested voltage with my multimeter and it is reporting no voltage. (I also tested voltage on another working mower to verify my multimeter was working). Before I spend money on a new ignition module, I would like to verify that my ignition cutoff is working properly. Any ideas how I can test that? Any ideas on whatelse may be responsible for the issue?

Thank you for any assistance,
Mark

There should be a removable spade terminal that has the kill wire connected to it. Remove that wire and try for spark.

Just now copied a test run by another party a year ago, here are the readings he said he got.

"Bad CD Pak: plug wire to steel laminations, 316 ohms,
(new Pak, 527 ohms).
Bad CD Pak: steel laminations to grounding tab, 0.0 ohms,
(new Pak, 6.2 ohms).
Bad CD Pak: plug wire to grounding tab, 0.0 ohms,
(new Pak, 528 ohms)."

Thank you for the advice. One question: what are the "steel laminations" on the module? Is this the two metal parts that the flywheel magnet passes by, or is this the metal sleeves that the two bolts go thru to secure the module?

Thanks again,
Mark

I would say either is OK.

You would only get the same readings if the same component inside the module has failed in the same way. Too many variables and you cannot get reliable results with a multi-meter test.

Reply to Mustangman. the laminations on/in the ignition module are the thin strips in it that are formed into the u-shaped module. they hardly ever are the cause of "no ignition", unless they have been deformed by unseemly treatment, rust, or bad handling.
