Not a real big issue but normally close to the Fuel tank location for convenience . Less fuel line to drain ..right lol ?

Thanks ewalk! The setup on this generator has the fuel line leaving the tank, dropping down low under something, then back up the other side to the carb. Assuming I install the shutoff next to the fuel tank, if I shut the valve with the engine running, will the engine suck the fuel from the remaining fuel line even though the line dips lower then the carb? Or will I end up with an empty carb bowl but have some fuel in the line still. I have no idea why I am making such a big deal out of this - any shutoff is better then no shutoff... Thanks

You will have some residual fuel within the lower section of line , either way you will have some fuel remain within the line , which is ok normally . The shutoff is to prevent flooding the crankcase . Also for Safety when repairs are required quickly and of course during storage when a fuel line or carb inlet valve may fail casing potential serious consequences.
