My Lawnboys eat TCW3 for breakfast and belch fire!

On a side note, I exclusevelly use Valvoline air cooled two stroke oil that is stamped with TCW3. I mow alot over the summer and fall. This is good oil for people like me who use lots of the stuff. In a business you can't always buy that expensive synthetic stuff that I'm hearing now is'nt so good.

TC W-3 is the oil recommended by Toro for the Lawnboys. Many can chime in with opinions as why or why not to use it. I kind of believe it has a lot to do with the fact that TC W-3 is the most current American spec for any 2 cycle oil. Also these engines run more like a boat motor than a chain saw.

TCW-3 is designed for use in water cooled 2 cycle motors in which the ring temps don't rise above 300 degrees F. Air cooled motors don't have the constant temp control of the water cooled motors so , on a 95 degree summer day, a lot of stress is put on the performance of the lubricant. High performance 2-cycles like chain saws really push the limits of lubrication. I'm not sure if Lawn Boys qualify as high performance but I would stick with non TCW-3 oils.

Not necessarily. If the Lawn Boy motor operates within the spec range of TCW3, it should be fine. TCW3 can't be used in "high performance" air cooled motors. I don't think LB motors qualify for that category. This link tells alot about TCW3
