It looks like Mirabilis,
a tender perennial (not frost hardy),

in my climate you cultivate them like Dahlias, tubers from older plants can be stored frost free,

can be grown from seed (big, black, about pea-size)

they have funny color genetics, are somewhat unstable in color,

They are hardy here, though not evergreen. The tubers grow back in the spring. There are countless anecdotes of this plant finding suitable microclimates as far north as Z5 where the tubers survive indefinitely. Between pavers sounds like such a location if you are in a cold enough climate that it shouldn't otherwise be hardy.

This plant is sometimes cultivated in a pot as a 'fat plant.'

Interersting link, Linaria, TY. I've never heard of contact dermatitis from this plant. Good to know though, lately I seem to be sensitive to any plant that can possibly cause contact dermatitis. If it bothered 1 other person, I'll probably be the 2nd.

It's naturalised in parts of Australia and has become invasive in some countries. I think it's worth keeping a close eye on it.

its a seed sowing thing in z5 MI .... seeds do winter over.. with enough snow cover that the vermin don't get it all ...

the hand grenade-like seed.. needs softening [winter].... or scraping/cutting if stored dry ...

one of the plants.. that require me to do something in spring.. that i have not been w/o in 40 years of gardening ....

i like the streaked ones ...

someone once suggested.. the scent.. in early evening.. is similar to orange flowers.. or mock orange ... but since these start blooming from seed in july .. and the MO is long gone by then ... i can not say i have compared ....

That's what 'tender perennial,' that Linaria said, means. It's not an annual anywhere, just killed by cold.

Beware the weedy potential in Australian gardens as Flora pointed out. I grew it in Melbourne and it spread like wildfire, both by seed and underground. It literally took me years to get rid of it.
