Anyone Who Knows the Name of This Plant?

Hi.
I spotted this plant on the edge of our driveway on January 6, 2015. I never saw it in our garden before, so I would be very grateful if someone could help me put a name on it.
Current local temperature is about 5 degrees Celcius (41 F) in the day and a couple of degrees lower in the night (36 F). However, less than two weeks before I saw it for the first time, night temperatures went as low as -8 degrees Celcius (18 F) for several days.
