not Malus sylvestris, what kind of M. then?

Hi there,
we have a project running, planing and supervising the planting of some trees for a park on top of some tunneled highway. (so it runs in a tunnel now).

(in Europe, Switzerland)

One species we wanted is Malus sylvestris, the European wild apple for its benefits for wildlife.

Accidentally I spotted some fruits on one of the freshly planted trees from this season. And it got me thinking, it was yellow with quite fancy red stripy marks.
And it did not have any sepals.

I did some research and found two very substantial portraits of the species, both showing fruits WITH sepals.

So, could you give me a species or group what it could be?
Worst case would be a mildew prone garden type.

I will adress the guy at he nursery as well, so far they always delivered great stuff, and I guess the mess-up occurred in another place they bought from.
Thanks for input, bye, Lin

ps: the fruit is less than an inch in diameter
