any indication of sucking insects on the back of that leaf ... if so.. any other leaf ...

tropical plants can be understory plants as well as sun plant ... do not put it in full sun.. even thru a window.. until the botanists get you an ID ... a scale would help.. your camera angle makes it look extremely tall ... making the close leaf look very big.. how many inches.. ???

and finally.. the leaf at 10 o'clock.. is that one browning also.. or is that a camera thing also ...

I'll try to answer all your questions. It was cold the day I brought the plant home, but it wasn't exposed very long. Plant size: 9-10". Biggest leaf is about 4", most others are 2-3". No insects visible but, yes, two other leaves show small brown spots that show through on the other side. We had a pretty cold spell several days ago, but the room the plant is located in stays pretty warm, at least during the bulk of the day. Evenings, perhaps low 60's F.
