Help identify please

This plant snuck up behind me over the winter and decided to stay. All of the brown surrounding it are salmon berry bushes. The plant is about 6' tall now. as you can see there are no leaves toward the bottom half, only at the top. Thank you.

You don't say where you live, but if it is in a warmish zone this might be Echium pininana. If you are somewhere chilly I am way off.

Are the leaves toothed? If I found this plant in my backyard I would think it was Ironweed, Vernonia. Ironweed has toothed leaves, though.

The zone or location would be helpful.

Salmonberry = Pacific Coast of North America unless these are being cultivated outside of their native area. Echium popping up as a weed implies California, maybe southern coastal Oregon. This is also grown north of there and may reseed but is killed more often by cold, I have not seen patches of it like those farther south.
