but i doubt anything z7 can throw at periwinkle... aka myrtle ... will kill it ...

i prefer the latin.. but this plant has so many cool common names ...

can anyone tell me why the word periwinkle makes this old fart smile????

I've seen it bloom midwinter many times and I'm a couple of zones colder than the OP. I find very little bothers this plant save perhaps full sun which is probably why it is such an invasive plant in woodlands. I've seen it growing as a dense carpet on a forest floor choking out all but the trees & shrubs, poison ivy, and early spring ephemerals. Very sad sight.

IME Vinca minor should have narrower leaves. Those wide, almost oval leaves look more like V major to me,

Yes, it is clearly V. major.
