Thanks, carol23! Excuse me for not being specific. I was referring to the upright plant. After a bit of googling, I see I'm not alone in guessing (incorrectly) that it was a cyad. I'm still not able to determine if it can be companion planted with a neoregelia.

It's alive ... and appears to be thriving

Ken, currently it's just thrown on top of those sprawling plants. I bought a pot for it, but didn't know what kind of soil to use since I didn't know what kind of plant it was. Now that I know it's a zz plant, I will pot it in cactus mix & perlite. I was wondering if I could also include a neoregelia in the same pot for added interest.

Ken, it's important to know the water, light, etc. needs of plants before deciding to plant them together in the same container.

Natebear, in my opinion, the bromiliad should be potted on its own.
