Is this a weed?

Hello

Can anyone help me to identify the plant in the photo? It seems to be about to flower. I'm guessing it's a weed, but I'm clueless about plants.

thanks

Vicky

Yes. Not a weed.

Ah, yes, thank you! Glad I didn't pull it up! Should it be flowering now? That seems very early.

my general rule is.. the bigger the flower.. the lesser the chance of it being a weed ... as such tends to do a bazillion flowers .. leading to a bazillion seed pods.. each carrying a bazillion seeds...

as compared to one big showy flower.. which tends to indicate someone bred it to such showiness ...

as to whether its early.. england is kinda big.. maybe if you narrow down your location one of your local brethren can comment on such ...

'....england is kinda big....' not really, Ken!

It is a bit early, Vicky, but it has been a very mild winter and everything is advanced this year. At 11 o'clock to the Anemone you seem to have a daffodil coming through too.

BTW around the Anemone are tiny seedling Speedwell seedlings which IS a weed.

Thanks so much everyone for the help! I'm in Northamptonshire btw. I have got a few other plants coming through too; daffodils, perhaps a tulip, snowdrops (got one flowering) and other things I don't recognise but that don't look like weeds. I look forward to them flowering and I hope last night's hard frost didn't kill everything!

Feel free to post here is you need any more ids. Start a new post for each plant. By the way your snowdrop is not the common, almost-native Galanthus nivalis. There is a Bulbs forum here with some snowdrop fans on it who might be able to tell you which snowdrop you have. G ikariae is a possibility.

Here is a link that might be useful: Bulbs forum
