In my experience the damage is more likely to be suffered by the plants than the crawler. Except, of course the choking hazard of those loose stones and mulch on the tops of the pots. And is that globe thing made of glass? Or could s/he pull the whole thing down on top of him/herself? So many potential disasters scenarios in that picture far more likely than the baby chewing on the leaves. I'd get everything at least three feet off the floor then rising as they start to haul themselves up on the furniture ;-)

Thanks heaps for your responses. Floral-uk - I understand what you're saying and you are very right. We don't keep them in that location though, it was just the best place to take a photograph. They are completely out of our baby's reach, I was mostly concerned about leaves falling on the ground and him putting them in his mouth. He's a quick little man.

I see ASCL - that makes sense now.

The Dracaena leaves are very sharp so I'd be concerned about him cutting his mouth or poking himself in the eye as well as any potential toxicity. But if you keep an eye on the plants, leaves are unlikely to fall off before you notice they are dying.

Welcome to GW! Nice looking plants. Agreed, not considered toxic. I've always had plants in the house with the kids, these same ones and many others, just gotta keep 'em separated.

When a leaf turns brown, cut it off as close to the main stem/trunk as possible. The Dracaena leaves will fall on the floor, if not removed before they do that (after turning yellow/brown) but the dead palm leaves never let go without help, but are unsightly. Once a leaf turns brown, it can't turn green again. On both plants, it's normal for the oldest leaf to be lost at the same pace to the new ones showing up.

Both of these plants are fairly sensitive to tap water (chemicals and wrong PH) which can cause tips to turn brown, and cause the palm to look pale in general. Plain water is much better if practical. Plain water would be rain/melted snow, distilled, condensate from dehumidifier or A/C.
