they can only take so much cold ... so we have to define the odds of how cold ..

if that question is answered ... then there is no reason they cant go outside ... but after 5 years inside ... they can ONLY go outside in full shade ... they would need to be hardened off to real sun ...

and little pots with huge plants ... are also problematic.. in that the pot itself can dry out too fast in sunshine..

so to be on the safe side.. lets just call it full shade... which itself.. is usually many times brighter than indoors ...

plus.. dont forget.. how you watered.. indoors... is irellevant.. to how it will need to be watered.. outdoors... you will have to redefine your protocol ...

and it might be best .. if you figure that out.. before you hire someone who might not know ...

there is a houseplant forum as well as a container garden forum ... and you never know.. where you will find the peep with the most spot on info ..

i am not up on the names.. but i would call one or both.. a corn plant .. compare at link ... though i am sure.. the wizards will firm that up for you ...

BTW: your other problem outdoors.. will be how to make sure.. that every little breeze.. doesnt knock it over .... since they are both.. sail boat sails in small pots that dont weigh much ...

ps: the tall one.. can probably be hacked off.. like the smaller.. should you wish to reign in its height.. someday down the line ... [rain.. rein.. reign .... whatever.. lol .. probably rein in .. like a horse.. eh]

They are corn plants. They are a Dracena plant. Super easy to care for. Water them when they are almost dry. They can stand almost any kind of sunlight.

Draceana massangeana is listed as zone 10B.

The plant is actually in a 9B zone (indoors), but my friend resides in a 10A zone (outdoors).

Will it be alright for them to be outside?

As long as they are slowly introduced to outdoors, and aren't shoved out in full sun, or left out in the occasional freezing nights ... they'll be OK.
