Name That Plant!

What can these be?

I have a cupboard in my house which houses the electricity and gas meter. Its quite a cool and drafty cupboard.
I have several strange little grey balls hanging in there which are attached to cobwebs. I am hoping they are not spider eggs, or if so maybe they are dead?

Please can you help me identify what they are?

I live in England.

Are they hard to the touch?
They look like King Alfreds Cakes or Cramp Ball - Daldinia concentrica.
Normally found on rotting/decaying wood.

I don't know what the black spheres are but they look more like fungi to me than eggs. They aren't house spider eggs. Have you pulled one off and cut it in half? They look like Cramp Ball fungi but I've only ever seen those outdoors.

And I think you may well have rot in the wood.Can you stick a screw driver into it?
