I think this is Aucuba Japonica, but considering I once thought an azalea was a rose, I thought I'd better check with the experts. It's evergreen, maybe 5' tall, and the berries have just ripened in my Zone 8 garden. It's growing in moist acidic soil under tall pines in fairly deep shade with a little dappled sun.
