Tiny plants that lack petals

These tiny plants were on the north side of a building this morning, growing in an area with so little light that only the mosses were thriving. They were branched, glabrous, and just 0.5 to 2 inches tall when in flower. Leaves were opposite and linear. Flowers were mostly single from each node, about 1/16 inch wide, and on pedicels that elongated with age up to 0.5 inch long. Each mature flower lacked petals. They had 4 sepals, and 4 stamens that were not visible until the sepals were manually spread.
