Look up tuberous begonia. They belong outdoors, climate willing. :)

Actually I'm pretty sure we're talking rieger begonia, which is a different animal than the summer tuberous ones...google it instead.

No, it will not die after it blooms. Any begonia can be kept alive after it blooms to get larger and bloom again, including tuberous, bedding, or reiger if given the environment to make them happy and they're pretty easy houseplants, actually.

But they don't want to be too hot, too dry or too dark. Do you have somewhere like a sunroom or porch kept cooler than your living room?

i dont consider them long term houseplants in MI ...

something about lack of house humidity ... as the winter wears on ...

its not that you cant do it ... it just wont be easy.. and they dont look that great by late winter .....

and they are all treated as annuals in MI ...

you bought them.. see what happens.... if propagate-able... start some cuttings in very late winter ... and then put mom and pups outdoors and enjoy them next summer .. why not????

the bulb type are not easy to propagate ... the herbaceous type.. will root in water in about 30 minutes.. lol ...

just experiment ... learn.. see what happens ... and if they start to get real ugly.. or have problems... throw them out ... it simply wont be cost effective to spend 20 bucks trying to cure a 2 dollar holiday plant .... always keep that in mind ...

it is not really a houseplant ... and therein lies the rub ...

they were sold as holiday impulse plants.. and they are not really expected to live as long as a lot of houseplants might ...

so the key.. is your expectation .... expect nothing... and you will be very pleased ... lol ..

but if you expect it to live.. for 10 or 20 years.. as many houseplants do ... you will not end up happy ...

In general potted flowering plants need way more light than foliage house plants can get by on.
