Camellia japonica

If you are in Camellia country (and it sounds like you are!), it may be an old cultivar. Hard to ID with hundreds (thousands?) of named varieties out there. Ask nurseryman for a rose-form double or formal double.

And it's hard to tell how true the color is in this photo, BUT, you can probably find something very similar in 'April Kiss'. or 'Jacks', or 'Jerry Hill' - if pink or salmon.

If you want something more red, you might try 'Spring Cardinal', Glen 40, Black Tie.

Really the best time to buy japonicas is in early Spring at the nurseries (or as soon as they are in stock) when they are in bloom.

If you have continued access to the shrub shown you could also try growing cuttings from it.
