Loves full sun, high temperatures, and requires little watering once established. I love portulaca.

It's good in salads, too

Portulaca oleracea is edible, but I don't recommend sampling
Portulaca grandiflora (and kin) , unless and until you find out
it's edible.

Portulaca oleracea is one of the richest source of non-fish EPA Essential Fatty acids (Omega 3's) on earth.
The entire plant is edible and can be eaten raw, cooked or pickled and has a mild acid taste & a fatty/mucilaginous quality.
Some resources note that the leaves and flowers of Portulaca grandiflora (Moss Rose) contain oxalates and are known to cause acute oxalate poisoning.

Here is a link that might be useful: Portulaca oleracea

Thanks ever so much for all the info! I will move it to its own pot as its sharing with a jasminey type plant.

You can also eat purslane, which most people think of as a weed when it comes up in their garden. It is a relative of the portulaca and also have a very high EFA level. I either eat it raw in salads, or saute it in a bit of oil. The early American settlers ate it, and so did Thomas Jefferson, but that's been forgotten now, and it's just treated like a weed.

BTW, chickweed is also edible and finds its way into my salads, too.
