This was found in wetlands/marshy areas at several places along the Cabot Trail

It looks like Sarracenia purpurea, pitcher plant.

Thanks, Susan! The link says it is the "floral emblem of the province of Newfoundland" - funny thing is I didn't see any when I was hiking the Viking Trail last summer but saw them the year before along Cabot Trail.
