Is this ornamental grass the same as the cluster? I think it is but I'm not sure; it lacks the seed/flower stalks of the cluster. Cluster picture: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/namegal/msg0211044614317.html

Not a grass. Looks like Ophiopogon(convallaria familly).

Got a quarter for size comparison?

Pretty sure that's Variegated Liriope (Liriope Muscari 'Variegata'). Those flowers show up towards summer, though can be sporadic depending on conditions. I suspect the other cluster is standard Liriope Muscari. Very common around here (DFW) to see both varieties used in the same garden.

to specifically answer your title question.. NO it is not the 'same' .... its a 'variegated variety' of the other ... in other words.. the weird uncle of the same family.. lol and.. its NOT a 'grass' .. [though i am not googling to verify that .. correct me if i am wrong .. grasses dont berry????] ... not everything with a lance shaped leaf .... is a grass .... and common names dont count.. lol ... i have hosta with leaves like that.. many spring bulbs .. etc ... even some grasses .... and one tree with leaves sorta like that .... Fagus Sylv. Asplenifolia ... see link you seem interested in learning.. so you may as well learn the 'right' words ... have fun .... and good luck ken ps: this is where someone corrects me.. and says it is a grass.. lol.. so be it.. i will learn a new word for the day .... i am not adverse to learning ... [its the retaining of such that is an issue.. lol] ....
